Message from Director of Surf Sports

G’day members,

The official Surf Sports Season is rapidly approaching with the first major hit out being NSW  Country Titles. There have been a few happenings in surf sports lately so though give an update.

Firstly Tom OSBORNE (U17), Jess HIATT (U15), Ty-Jesse BRABANT (U15) and Taj THROWER (U14) attended the Cronulla Short Course Carnival last weekend, representing our club in front of major metropolitan clubs. The boys did an outstanding job; Tom OSBORNE won the board, 3rd in the ironman and 2nd in the sprints, Jessie HIATT came first in the board and 4th in the ironman, and 7th in the swim; Ty-Jesse Brabant came 2nd in the board and 5th in the ironman; Taj Thrower came 5th in the swim, 7th in the iron and board. Jesse, Taj and Ty Jesse won the U14/15 board relay! Outstanding effort to all the boys, up against some very good competition.

Finn ASKEW is part of the Ocean 6 Kellogg’s Series and his next hit out will be North Wollongong 14th and 15th December, 2018. It will be televised on Fox Sports and streamed live on Facebook. It is fantastic to see our little club’s cap competing amongst the very elite of our sport. Good luck Finn. Raylene MYERS has done an outstanding job organising our little competition for our members. It is usually held every Sunday morning around 1030am at our beach. Please support it as it is a good chance to keep fit and friendly rivalry. 11 members have also made the MNC Branch team which will compete against the very best at the interbranch carnival held at Black head SLSC 8th 9th December.

Country titles entries close on Monday 26th November 2018 this is to allow the rashie order form to be submitted. Once closed I will send out a report on what event s everyone is entered in and allow people to organise team events, for final submission and fine tuning to state centre.

Important – if you intend to compete you MUST be proficient before the 31st December 2018. It involves three steps, dry proficiency, wet proficiency (run swim run, board or tube rescue) and electronic proficiency which is accessed through the SLSA Members Area. You are not proficient if you miss any of the steps! Please don’t leave it till the last minute. Assessors are volunteers as well and if you haven’t completed it all by the 22nd December, 2018 I’d say you’ll miss out.

There is plenty of training going on. Advance Ski training is being held around 6am every Monday Wednesday and Fridays (It not a learn to ski training – it will be expected that you can paddle a ski well). Pathways training is every afternoon Monday/Tuesday/ Wednesday and Thursday 5pm and 8am Saturdays conditions depends on the venue so get on Facebook and check it out, “pathways”. The local Pool offers loads of squads from a surf squad 645am start Mondays/Tuesday/Thursdays and Fridays. There is an early squad at 5am sharp in the water as well.
